When to have your chimney swept?
The best time for you to have your chimney swept is just before the start of the heating season or if your log burning stove / open fire hasn’t been used for a prolonged period.
This will ensure that the dangerous fumes such as carbon monoxide can exit the chimney correctly along with reducing the risk of potential chimney fires.
It is recommended by HETAS to have your chimney swept twice per year if you’re burning woo and bituminous house coal.
Do I need to get my chimney swept every year?
We do advocate for you to get your chimney swept atleast once per year.
Having your chimney cleaned removes the build up of soot and can remove blockages caused in your chimney stack such as twigs & debris which has fallen or been dropped by birds.
According to HETAS there were 3,105 chimney fires between arpil 2020 & March 2021.
What happens if you don't clean your chimney?
There are many repurcussions to not having your chimney cleaned.
Blockages can occur in your chimney, meaning there is reduced pull through your chimney which will then force the toxic gases to release into your property.
These gases are a by-product of burning materials and can cause serious respiratory issues, carbon monoxide poisoning or suffocation.
